Weddings in the Italian Alps

Get married in the Alps

Arching away from the Mont Blanc to the Dolomites

We're very excited to dedicate this section to the incredible mountainous ridge in the North of Italy. Stretching over six big regions, the Alps function as an important windscreen protecting the Peninsula from cold temperatures blowing down from Northern Europe.

They also contribute to the immense diversity of the Italian landform, with their range of steep, rocky peaks, pastoral meadows, and unique glacial lakes. Scattered around this heterogeneous terrain are thousands of beautiful towns and mountain villages nurturing their own community life and traditions. Immerse yourselves in such a magical mystic and prepare for an unforgettable time.

The perfect destination for all mother nature lovers. Getting married in the Italian Alps is about letting nature set the tone of your bridal decoration, fresh-green summer, retro-browns from September, and winter whites to cover the colder months.

Reasons why

5 reasons to have your wedding in The Alps

If you are reading this section we already know that you love the mountains and have a thing for natural settings. The Italian Alps are an amazing destination which is known to draw a refreshing effect on their visitors.

If you are still undecided, here are five good reasons to choose The Alps for your Italian wedding.

1

The joys of an Alpine summer

What do you picture when you think about the Alps? It's incredibly common to envision a landscape made of snow-capped mountain tops, crackling fire, and the charcoal burning scents of winter. In truth, the Italian Alps are a natural beauty all year round. With some of the best hiking trails in the world, they embody the perfect destination for active holidays and outdoor culture. Thinking about what entertainment to offer your guests will be an easy task, given the abundant gourmet experiences, adventurous activities, and much-desired spa retreats.

2

Recipe for healthy living

Italy's reputation as good food and wine leader is no exception to this mountain area. When in the Alps, you and your guests are in for a treat of your senses. Crossing wine-growing regions famous for their production of crispy whites and robust reds, indeed many wedding celebrations started off with a wine-sipping aperitif party, tasting local food delicacies and staring at the panorama of the rocky Dolomites. To top off this healthy outlook of body and mind, plenty of fresh, oxygenated air, and a good range of bespoke thermal towns make for a super nourishing wedding experience.

3

A wedding dressed in the snow

How many times have you looked out the window during a snowstorm? When did you take a walk in nature with the soft snow falling on the ground? Snow is universally associated with romance

The right time to let your guests get on with one of the many fun-filled winter sports on spectacular slopes while you rest away in the comfort of a cabin with your loved one, roasting chestnuts on the crackling fireplace, enjoying the silence of nature.

4

Secret natural gems

Seeking amongst the ridges you can uncover hundreds of lakes of all sizes, scattered around the valleys, and fuelled by the nearby glaciers and streams.

The only thing better than having an Alpine backdrop in your wedding photos is to add the view of one of these gorgeous mountain lakes. In addition, you can be sure your guests will have a great time practicing one of the water sports available in the area, from sailing to kayaking and even rafting, for the most adventurous.

5

The true vibe of Alpine towns

There is a unique energy in and around the mountain villages of the Italian Alps. Spend a few nights in a picturesque chalet, go for a walk along the hiking trails and breathe in the stunning scenery. Every corner is worth stopping by to take shots of the panorama.

Our tips for some unique spots worth a visit are Cortina d'Ampezzo, a renowned Alpine town for its great style. If you didn't know already, many national and international movies have been shot here due to the large presence of high-class hotels and refined locations in proximity to their famous ski resorts.

On the Alpine map, you should also pin Ayas, poetic little village located in the Valle d'Aosta region. Sitting at the foot of the majestic Monte Rosa, it's a location widely targeted by winter sports fanatics. You may also spend some time trying the local restaurants and taverns and savor the unique taste of this regional beauty.

Another unmissable place is Courmayeur, on the slopes of the majestic Mont Blanc. Terribly romantic, that's what our couples in love have all said about this wedding destination.

Food

Foodie Guide

It's hard to sum up the entire culinary range of the Northern Alps, but just to entice your taste buds enough, let us say that this is an area known for its yummy variety of mature, savoury cheeses and delicious fat thick cured meats (vegetarians and vegans, please look away!)  Cooking traditions on the Italian Alps are extremely diverse, and definitely draw inspiration from both Italian and their bordering lands. Sounds cool, right?

This is also the land of homemade pasta and quite a number of incredible pasta-filled varieties, which you will not find elsewhere. From the casunziei in Cortina, to cjarsons in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and canederli in Trentino-South Tyrol. There is plenty of local deliciousness to stuff yourselves and ensure your guests leave the wedding table fully satisfied. The paramount feature of Alpine dishes is commonly the freshness of the ingredients used, seasoned with a very high quality of produce. First dishes and main courses on the Italian Alps are a real finger-licking delight, with no exception.

Game and bird meat, lake and freshwater fish, planks of aged and mature cheese, you name it. Jump at the opportunity of hosting your wedding luncheon at one of the uber traditional mountain lodges, and pamper your guests with the natural class of the local hospitality.

Don't miss

Soupe valpellinentze, Canederli, Polenta taragna, Pizzoccheri, Spatzli, Muset, Frico, Zelten, Strudel, Lebkuchen

Wine

The Alps in a glass

Given the extended surface this territory covers, you can expect an equally rich and varied wine-growing tradition.

Starting from the East, we give praise to the wines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia famed for its crispy, fresh whites and light, fruity red varieties of the hillside area. A very dear mention is also reserved to the unique production of orange wine types, a big focus of the Carso district, bordering the eastern corner of the region.

Moving westwards towards the Dolomitic vineyards, between the Veneto region and Trentino-South Tyrol, we bow to the elegant Chardonnay grapes, the fresh and acidic Rosiola, the indigenous juicy Vernatsch or the more serious Lagrain, amongst the residents favorites. A whole lot of good wine to be placed on a wedding table, typically bringing big smiles to the out-of-towners.

Last, but certainly not least in our personal chart of appreciation is the small, remote region of the Aosta Valley sitting at the feet of Mount Blanc and Monte Rosa. Here the vino production works with excellent quality grapes cultivated on terraced vineyards, and very attached to the traditional methods.

Tying the knot at a high altitude is an excuse for incredibly beautiful photos and a top-class list of local wines ready to be popped open at the table.

RECOMMENDED WINES: Alto Adige, Lago di Caldaro, Valdadige, Gewürtztraminer, Teroldego, Friulano, Merlot, Pinot nero, Merlot, Torrette, Nus Rouge, Arnad-Montjovet, Chambave Muscat
