Where in Ravello?
The hotel is situated on the highest part of Ravello, on a dominant position over the Mediterranean. Description of the venue Pasquale and his wife, Elisabeth von Wartburg, a lady from Berne, began accommodating guests at their own home, Villa Episcopio, in 1875. The immaculate service, the superior quality of their wines, and most of all, the aristocratic yet warm ambience of their home soon became well-known in the restricted circle of the elite of the time. Even Wagner, who was living in Naples around 1880 and was a good friend of Elisabeth's family, embarked on a five-hour coach trip through dusty roads with scene painter Joukounowhy just to spend a few days at the Palumbos'. One day, as he was walking around Ravello at dusk, he found himself in the garden of Villa Rufolo and suddenly exclaimed: "Joukounowhy, we've found it! This is Klingsor's magic garden!".
