The XII century palace probably built on the ruins of an old Romanesque villa, once belonged to noble families and at the beginning of the '900 became the residence of the noble Englishman Ernest William Beckett, Lord Grimthorpe. This exclusive villa hosted kings and famous artists and scientists such as Foster, D. H. Lawrence, Strachey, Keynes, Crick, Piaget, the Dukes of Kent, Churchill, who enjoyed the utmost exclusiveness and tranquillity of this place. It was also shelter to the famous elopement of Greta Garbo with Leopold Stokowsky.
