Katharine and Carl

Autumn wedding on the Amalfi Coast

Amalfi never fails to amaze

It was April when Katharine and Carl first emailed us. We learnt from them that we had helped Katharine's brother with getting married in Italy a few years before - and she was now looking for the same thing.

It's not unusual, since we have been in the industry for so long, that couples these days come to us with a referral from family or friends and want to have their own destination wedding in Italy.

It was going to be an Autumn wedding on Amalfi's southern coast with a large group of American guests, lots of bright elements and romantic details.

The vision

Katherine and Carl's notes

We had less than 6 months to make everything work, which in wedding talk is a short time. Thankfully the wedding papers for the Catholic ceremony in the Church of Amalfi were in order, and Kath and Carl were a couple with clear ideas.

One thing that stood out was the desire to enjoy a boat experience at some point over the wedding weekend, which we suggested they could have on the rehearsal night. Positano is a short sea distance from Amalfi with a breathtaking view, and when we showed them some pictures we got a straight YES.

The plan for the following day would be for the 90 guests to join the married couple after the ceremony, to Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. This part of the southern coast shines with few but stunning locations that can cater for large receptions, Villa Cimbrone being one of them. And at the end of the celebrations, they would be transited back to Amalfi for an after-party in a local club with our rented bus.

The five deal breakers for Katherine and Carl

  • Location: Amalfi Coast
  • Ceremony: Catholic
  • Venue: amazing Villa for the reception
  • Guests: a large wedding of 90 people
  • Other requests: chance for a boat tour

The action plan

How did we pull it off

The weekend started in full colour, with the intimate dinner hosted in one of our recommended sea-view restaurants in Positano. The designed stationery created such a wow effect blending in gracefully with the typical local designs.

The day of the wedding was a train of emotions for everyone. We loved that Carl surprised Katharine with a smoking hot red Alfa waiting for them as they descended the famous stairs of the Amalfi main piazza minutes after their I-dos. The couple rode through the scenic route to Ravello, while the party got started in the dim light of the medieval Crypt. The embellished table arrangement composed following Kath and our design instructions matched beautifully with the fucsias and the yellows of Kath's palette. The dinner went as smoothly as expected in between juicy dishes, romantic dances and moments of laughter.

As the guests got ready to board the bus and head back to Amalfi for the night party, we waved them goodbye and ensured they all left with one of the tastefully packaged wedding favours celebrating Italy's best food products. A very pretty souvenir to carry home.

Truthfully, we are still reminiscing on this weekend of fun and romance.

Thank you Kath and Carl for bringing so much sun to an October day on the Amalfi Coast.
