What is SIAE and why should I pay it for my wedding or event in Italy?

SIAE is the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers.

The Italian law establishes that those who organize a private event, show or any entertainments where intellectual works exploited (i.e., music live or recorded) should ask SIAE a license to hold this event.

Payment of the license from SIAE is due for any wedding party where live or recorded music is expected. SIAE inspectors will apply severe penalties, and most importantly, the arrival of the Inspectors will cause a significant disruption to the ceremony or wedding reception especially if the Siae fees have not been paid beforehand.

Siae costs depend on the number of guests, hours of performance, venue, and type of performance. The usual prices are from Euro 200,00 to Euro 460,00 depending on the type of service. The cost is specified on the website: https://www.siae.it

On top of this, a fee is applied to process the authorization, collect all the required paperwork and, after the event, restitute the forms filled by the musicians or DJ.
