The first nucleus of the island was built around the middle of the 17th century; this part is called the S. Anna district, where you can find the most beautiful and the oldest buildings. For at least 2,000 years before this period the inhabitants lived in the grottoes, but from 800 to 900 A.D., the Saracens built defense towers on the island and some of these were later enlarged into fortresses by the Romans. The history of the island is ancient, and today you can still breathe a very secluded and unique atmosphere: the island is perfectly accommodating especially in May, June, September, and October, which are also the most suggested months for a wedding in Favignana and Sicily.
