Weddings in Favignana

A romantic destination wedding in Sicily, on the island of Favignana

The Island of Favignana, near Trapani (15 minutes) and Palermo (1 hour), is an exceptional and new wedding location in Sicily. We have planned for May 2013 the first wedding ever on the island for a couple of English spouses, it has been a fantastic experience, especially for the people of this small town. Discover the marvelous island of Favignana: the biggest of the Aegadian Islands, it has been nicknamed “Farfalla,” the butterfly because of its beauty and elegance as well as its shape.

History, genuineness, and fascination

The first nucleus of the island was built around the middle of the 17th century; this part is called the S. Anna district, where you can find the most beautiful and the oldest buildings. For at least 2,000 years before this period the inhabitants lived in the grottoes, but from 800 to 900 A.D., the Saracens built defense towers on the island and some of these were later enlarged into fortresses by the Romans. The history of the island is ancient, and today you can still breathe a very secluded and unique atmosphere: the island is perfectly accommodating especially in May, June, September, and October.

Where can I get married on the island of Favignana?

Civil weddings and Catholic ceremonies are welcome in the small Piazza (square) of the town: a very typical Italian atmosphere. The best words and adjectives to describe the island are Sicilian, Italian, Mediterranean, relax, real, no touristy, exclusive and very, but very special.
