Imagine the beauty and appeal of a romantic wedding ceremony in this marvelous town… a splendid church perched on a cliff dominating the port that seems to brave the waves and offers breathtaking scenery… Could you imagine anything more exclusive for a romantic catholic wedding ceremony?
In the small square, the Church seems to challenge the waves of the sea to offer its visitors absolute breathtaking views. The church was built on 1318 by Antelami masters in a gothic Ligurian style and dedicated to the patron of the village, celebrated on July 20th. This magnificent building presents two peculiarities: the impressive bell-tower, with an octagonal shape is 40 meters high and the entrance, which is settled in the Apse, instead of the façade. A catholic wedding in Vernazza is beauty, romanticism, sea and history!
The inside is divided in three aisles, and is reached by going up various stairs. The whole structure bases its foundations on stone and the west façade overlooks the sea. The interior is very suggestive as it is all decorated with slate, the local black stone. You can decorate it with beautiful flower arrangements following your specifications. The church can host up to 200 persons. Any sacred classical music is allowed during the ceremony prior priest's approval.
The legend lying beneath this charming building is very interesting and fascinating. It is said that one day a huge coastal storm delivered a holy relic of Saint Margaret of Antioch on the shores of Vernazza: when the relic was then taken away by the waves and brought back in the same spot they appeared for the first time, the local population decided to build a church in that very place. A catholic wedding in Vernazza will be further embellished by the marvelous atmosphere of this splendid church: the building can be easily reached by climbing the rock staircase looking directly onto the sea.
